Professor Ayşe Bilge Selçuk

Dr. Ayşe Bilge Selçuk is a professor of developmental psychology and a clinical psychologist. She received her BSc and MSc degrees in psychology at Middle East Technical University and PhD from the University of Melbourne; all with high distinction. She was previously on the faculty in the Department of Psychology at Koç University (2003-2022), one of the best and most prestigious academic institutions in Turkey, ranked in the top 200 institutions in the world. At Koç University, she was the founder and the director of the Child and Family Studies Lab. In 2022, she left Koç University to follow the scientist-practitioner model. Her expertise includes psychological health, life-span human development (cognitive, social, and emotional development), theory of mind, parenting, temperament-based child-rearing, and developmental psychopathology.

Due to her exceptional scientific contributions to psychology, she was awarded the title of Honorary Senior Researcher (2015-2018) by the University of Queensland and the Prof. Mustafa Parlar Research Award (2009) by Middle East Technical University. She has served as the regional director of the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development.

Dr. Selçuk has authored over one hundred scientific publications and four bestseller books aimed for the general public: İnsan Her Koşulda - Human Under All Conditions (2019), Her Koşulda Ebeveynlik - Parenting Under All Conditions (2021), Psikolojik Sağlamlık - Psychological Resilience (2023), and Dijital Çağda Sağlıklı Çocuk Yetiştirmek - Rearing Healthy Children in the Digital Era (2024). She was also the editor of the book Parenting: Theory and Research, published by Koç University Press in 2012.

In addition to her scientific contributions, Dr. Selçuk is a recognized expert in TV and print media. She has built a devoted audience by translating the latest psychological research into practical, everyday advice.

She is currently developing projects and giving seminars and training in various fields of psychology (psychological resilience, health in the digital age, effective parenting in the digital age, work-life balance, temperament-based child-rearing etc.) at DevelopMental, of which she is a co-founder. She continues her academic career in the psychology department at MEF University, offers consultancy to parents, and writes books.
