Founder of Turkey’s first and biggest Maker Community, Makers Turkiye. Ongun met with the maker movement when he was working in a strategic marketing department of a technology company. He then established Makers Turkiye to spread the movement all over the country and Maker Çocuk to transform education system to a learning-by-doing method. In less than a year, hundreds of kids have been thought coding, design, entrepreneurship and making. He also founded Istanbul MakerLab which is the first open to public makerspace in Turkey. He is also the founder of Flyler, which is a travel inspiration and planning engine. With Flyler, he is aiming to transform the online travel industry. Ongun Tan has reached thousands of people with the tens of talks he has already given, including two TEDx Talks. After 15 years of corporate experience in Turkey and the U.K, Ongun is currently trying to boost up his startups. He has already done his first exit with the sales of Maker Çocuk, and currently, to increase the impact of innovation education, he is the co-founder of Turkey’s first technology school, Tink, Teknoloji ve İnsan Kolejleri. He summarises his first two years of entrepreneur life as, “The startup world is so joyful that you always win when you are starting up a company; even if you don’t have a penny in your pocket, you got lots of stories and an extensive experience which you would never get in the corporate world. Which then yields to a bigger impact!”
